Pink combat boots

Experiencing a full-circle moment in business is a magical thing. Whether you work for a company or run your own, those moments serve as confirmation that the time we spend doing our work truly matters and makes a difference.

I experienced a full-circle moment recently related to my work as a productivity and organization professional. It was brief, but poignant; a reward I hadn’t even considered experiencing until I did.

While working with a young girl recently, we came across a brand-new, never-worn pair of bright pink combat boots. They were fun boots, with black laces and soles and small silver metal studs on the shafts.

For whatever reason, the girl didn’t want or need the boots, so she graciously chose to donate them to a local thrift store. Given their flawless condition, classic style, and fun color, I assumed they would sell quickly once they hit the shelves.

As part of my work, I occasionally peruse thrift stores to get a sense of what items are for sale and at what price. This helps me better guide clients as they decide what to do with their clutter.

The other day, while walking up and down the aisles of the thrift store where the pink boots were donated, I spotted them! They were tagged at $18 and waiting to be purchased by just the right person.

Two days later, my daughter and I were out shopping in a small plaza. We exited one store and made the short walk on the sidewalk to the next store. As we passed a small group of women walking toward us, I noticed the woman in the middle—the oldest of the three, likely in her seventies—was wearing the exact same pink boots my client had donated!

Immediately, it hit me that those fun pink boots had found their perfect home on the feet of a woman about 60 years older than the girl who had deemed them clutter just days before.

I looked closely as the woman passed. The silver metal studs on the shafts were as close to confirmation as I was going to get that these were the pink boots from my client—since I wasn’t going to stop the woman to ask where she got her boots.

A smile crossed my face, and a quiet sense of celebration bubbled up inside me. In that full-circle moment, I received confirmation that what I do at An Eye to Simplify truly matters. It’s a feeling I had longed for before starting An Eye to Simplify, and here in front of me was absolute proof that one person’s clutter really is someone else’s treasure—and that helping people let go of what no longer serves them, so it can serve someone else, is one very rewarding reason of why I do this work.

To the new owner of the pink boots…you were rocking them! They looked like they were made for you! Every time you wear them I hope you feel like you have a little extra hop in your step and they put a smile on your face. Keep on rocking those pink boots and being you, ma’am…the world needs you!

Simply yours,
